Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman ji, the GST Council has approved a landmark initiative: the Next-Gen GST Reforms. 1. Relief in Daily Essentials

From hair oil, toothpaste, and shaving cream to butter, cheese, and dairy spreads  the tax burden has been reduced from 18%/12% to just 5%. This ensures that essential items become more affordable for every household.

2. Support for Farmers & Agriculture

Critical items like tractor tyres, parts, bio-pesticides, irrigation systems, and agricultural machinery now attract only 5% GST, compared to 12–18% earlier. This will reduce costs for farmers and enhance productivity in the agriculture sector.

3. Affordable Healthcare

Medical items such as thermometers, diagnostic kits, glucometers, and even corrective spectacles now carry Nil to 5% GST instead of 12–18%. This is a major step towards reducing healthcare costs for Indian families.

4. Boost to Education

Educational tools, including maps, globes, pencils, crayons, and exercise books, have been made completely tax-free (Nil GST). This reform will directly benefit students and parents, making education more affordable.

5. Cheaper Automobiles & Appliances

Hybrid cars, motorbikes, and transport vehicles now face reduced GST slabs (from 28% to 18%), making mobility more accessible. Similarly, electronic appliances like air conditioners, televisions, monitors, and washing machines also see a big tax reduction, bringing cheer to middle-class households.

Process Reforms for Businesses

Apart from lowering GST on goods, the government has also simplified processes:

  • Automatic GST registration within 3 days.
  • Provisional refunds through system-based verification.
  • Special relief for MSMEs, with reduced tax liabilities and simplified compliance.
